Jurong Bird Park outing

A7K1 had this outing 2 Saturdays ago.. i'm so sorry in the delay of photos coz i only have more free time like recently.. but anyway, let's talk about the trip..

Upon entering we had to pay $18! which is more expensive than the zoo when the bird park is not even half the size of the zoo.. well, i shall not complain since i chose to join the class for this trip..

it's been at least 8 years since i've been to the park bird and it looks so different!! At the entrance we saw this open exhibit with this very dao bird..

*glares* it kept glaring at the guys we thought it must be female.. LOL!

i didn't take many photos because the bird park does not have a open concept like the zoo.. must of the birds are either in cages or behind glass penal making it difficult to shoot..

the lorry loft is probably the only place you could have direct contact with the birds.. no wonder wei han loves it so much..

buy a cup of bird feed for $2 and you can get close to the birds! they even climb on your shoulders!

majestic eagle.. i love my 70-200!!!! it could shoot through the fence without the fence appearing in my picture! haha

A month at the Zoo

As many of you would know, i volunteered at the zoo during my holidays.. i rotated to 5 different sections in the 5 weeks that i was there.. of coz i wouldn't miss out of taking photos of the animals..

Week 1- Fragile Forest
mainly small mammals, bugs and insects..

lemur- which many kids mistaken as a monkey until the movie Madagascar screened

dung beetle larvae- such creatures spend 9months of their lives in larvae and pupa stages.. when they finally turns into an adult, they only have 3 months to live.. sad isn't it? you spent your whole life turning into something beautiful, but when you finally reach it you have such limited time..

mousedeer- a very sad incident occurred with one of the mousedeers while i was there.. One pregnant mousedeers had a swollen eye and so had to be treated frequently.. due to the stress of frequent treatment and sedation, the baby was stillborn.. =(

Week 2- Reptile House
dealing mainly with snakes, lizards and tortoises.. i didn't have any photos of sankes coz i don't think they are very pretty.. haha.. and it's difficult shooting them through the glass.. you can't possible get close to it without a barrier in between..

rhino lizard.. i love this guy outta the 3 lizards, whose cages i have to clean everyday.. coz he's so guai and would allow you to clean his cage.. *patpats*

Giant Tortoise- you can never get so close if you are not a volunteer..

Giant Tortoise humping.. how often do you see this mianz? well, i see it everyday when i was there.. actually, both are males so that makes them gay! nah, animals can't differentiate each others' gender so they just try..

Week 3- Primate Kingdom and Himalayan Baboons

dont' worry this female is not having a tumour on her butt.. it's just that she's in heat.. their butts are enlarged to serve as a visual indication to the males that they are ready to mate..
